Enrollment at Clare Woods Academy

If a student’s home school district IEP team determines that an alternative placement is necessary, the district will work with the family to provide the required documents for consideration. These documents typically include the student’s most recent IEP and their last three-year re-evaluation. Once the district obtains parent consent and sends the necessary documentation, the Clare Woods Academy admissions team reviews it to assess whether space is available in a classroom that meets the student’s needs.

If the team determines that placement at Clare Woods Academy is appropriate, the next steps in the process may include:

• Observing the student in their current educational setting
• A parent or guardian tour of the Clare Woods Academy campus
• A virtual or in-person meeting with the family
• An intake meeting with the Clare Woods Academy team to finalize placement

Clare Woods Academy serves students ages 5 through 22 across elementary, middle, high school, and transition levels. Students must be eligible for special education services and require an alternative educational placement as determined by their home school district’s IEP team. The Academy specializes in serving students with diverse learning and behavioral differences, including those on the Autism Spectrum.

Placement at Clare Woods Academy requires district-supported approval, and all students must be referred by their home school district. Students attending Clare Woods Academy represent over 30 public school districts across the region. Clare Woods Academy welcomes students of any race, color, sex, nationality, or ethnic origin and provides equal access to all programs, rights, and activities.

At Clare Woods Academy, we are committed to helping students achieve their fullest potential and, when appropriate, work toward reintegration into their home school district. Individualized plans are developed to assess and build the skills and behaviors necessary for success in the least restrictive environment. Progress is evaluated through daily data collection and reviewed regularly, including during the annual IEP meeting.
